Does your baby prefer to look in one direction over the other?
Does your baby's body often look like it's in a C-shape when they are lying down or in their car seat?
If so, your baby might have tightness in their body!
It might be in their little neck muscles. It might be in their body (but we just "see" it in their neck).
Whether it's torticollis in infants, or tension through the body, we can help!
Does your baby have a tongue tie, lip tie or cheek ties? Did you know that manual therapy or "bodywork" can help BEFORE AND AFTER you do a release? Decreasing mouth/neck/body tension BEFORE a release can help make the procedure easier for the provider with possible improved outcomes. Therapy AFTER can also help your baby maximize their new mobility and function.
We often think of these issues as "normal", but just because they're COMMON, doesn't mean they're normal. Decreasing tension throughout the body can help make your baby feel more comfortable and more settled.

Plagiocephaly is a fancy term for a misshapen skull or flat head syndrome (infant flat head).
Because a newborn’s skull is very soft at birth, it is susceptible to forces placed upon it. Since all infants should sleep on their back, there is prolonged increased pressure on the back of the skull while sleeping. This can cause misshaping of the skull. The good news is with more awareness and some simple techniques, it can be prevented and then corrected with early intervention.

Are you wondering if your baby is on-track for their gross motor development or wondering about baby milestones?
We are happy to provide Baby Motor Milestone Check-ups. We will offer developmental play suggestions to help continue to promote their development.
Most parents are typically already playing with their babies, so if you are looking to make that time "Purposeful Play" then let us know and we are happy to help!
It is very well-known that all infants develop their gross motor skills at various ages and each baby is different!!!
However, we also know that there are some general guidelines for the typical developmental of gross motor skills as babies grow. Developmental milestones are things that most babies (75% or more) can do by a certain age.
If your baby is behind in meeting some early baby milestones, there could be multiple explanations.
Please reach out if you have questions about your baby's early motor development.
We do NOT make or prescribe helmets at Ottawa Infant Physio.
Helmets, when required, are made by Certified Orthotists only.
If you have tried physiotherapy, and/or your baby is over 6 months of age and rolling from back to tummy, you may consider a helmet if you are still interested in head reshaping.
